Sequim Prairie Garden Club members thoroughly enjoyed strolling throughout the 10 acres of beautiful display gardens
at Meerkerk Gardens on Friday, May 13. We were lucky to see this 'peaceful, woodland garden' at its peak
rhododendron bloom on a mostly sunny day. It features numerous species and hybrid rhododendrons, azaleas,
and magnolias, in a variety of settings including varieties that favor full sun, deep shade and a mixture
of sun and shade. The rhododendron gardens also include many interesting native and non-native tree species
such as orangebark stewartia, corkscrew maple, and the deciduous dawn redwood.
The garden offers a picnic area with a beautiful view of Puget Sound and Camano Island, a Rhododendron
Specialty Nursery, tours, and for those with time and energy, 43 acres of forest preserve complete
with trails throughout. While best known for their amazing rhododendron display, the summer gardens
feature dahlias, lilies and companion plants.
