Member Phil Hall’s Garden
Twelve members were treated to a tour of Phil’s wonderful home and garden. Phil and his wife built and moved into their home 10 years ago and started designing and planting their garden. Phil was educated in landscape architecture but never designed a residential garden. This was my first one. It definitely gave him the knowledge for the materials he wanted to use: Yoshino cherry trees, dogwoods and conifers along the neighbors yard. Phil also did a good job of planting along the road to give the yard a lot of separation.

The basic concept was working with materials that did well both in sun and shade to “bring the outdoors in”. A few of the favorites in Phil’s garden are the magnolia trees, Japanese Maples, lush barberry bushes, stunning bee balm in bloom, allium, a yellow spiked plant called Ligularia, spirea, and staghorn sumac.
