The group visited the historic Emery House, a 2-story log home on Blue Mountain belonging to Gordon & Jane Grall.
The home is on an 1885 homestead, originally owned by Andrew Chancellor. Andrew built the house in 1888 but sold it to his aunt & uncle,
Ida and Aaron Emery in 1898 when he moved back to Kansas.
The house has been in the extended family ever since. Gordon’s parents Bob & Violet Grall, bought the home from the Emery sons in 1947. The original house
still stands but has had two additions. The barn is gone but the outbuildings including the original cabin still stand. One of the Ford
trucks belonged to Bob, Gordon’s father.
Ida & Aaron’s children attended Blue Mountain School, a one room schoolhouse further up Blue Mountain Road. The group was able to tour the
inside of the schoolhouse plus the historic Blue Mountain cemetery located behind the school.
