In anticipation of the restoration and return of our historical totem pole, Priscilla Hudson organized a
tour of the House Of Myths Carving Shed and the Tribal Campus along the Old Blyn Highway. This fascinating
tour revealed that the totem poles are usually carved from a single old growth cedar ranging from 500-900 years
old. The notch along the back minimizes the cracking and stress on the log. It usually takes from 6 weeks
to 6 months to carve a totem, costing from $2500-$5000 per lineal foot, depending on the size and complexity
of the design. Many fabulous examples of tribal art were also on display in the Tribal Library, Administration
Building and Gift Shop.
