Prospective Eagle Scout Dean Ryerson of Troop 90 in Sequim has completed a valuable community project in order to qualify for the Scouting
Eagle Award. Dean worked in conjunction with the Sequim Prairie Garden Club at Pioneer Memorial Park on E. Washington Street to expand
and replant the Veterans Memorial garden bed that is a familiar site at the front of the Park next to the water fountain.
The Garden Club had long planned to update and refresh the Vets Memorial, so having Dean and a group of Boy Scouts and other
volunteers take over the project was welcome news. Dean was responsible for helping to lay out a new garden bed, get the new
plants donated by Home Depot and New Dungeness Nursery, and coordinate a group of other Boy Scouts from the Troop to dig up the
sod, remove old plants, then plant and mulch the new bed.
Thanks to Dean and Troop 90, it’s a win-win-win. Dean has qualified for the Eagle Scout Award, the Scouts got hands-on
experience with the basics of gardening, and the Sequim Prairie Garden Club has a brand new Veterans Memorial garden bed to
further enhance the beauty of Pioneer Memorial Park for the entire community.
For further information contact Troop 90 Scout Master Rene Nadon or the Sequim Prairie Garden Club at Pioneer Park in Sequim.
